5 issues per year
Between May 26 and June 6, around fifty volunteers came to offer their selfless service during the Seasonal service period at Dhamma Suttama. It was a fruitful period, with work alternating with three hours of meditation and three delicious meals, cooked with a lot of Mettā.
The list of work accomplished during these twelve days is impressive. Except for the repair of the roofs of residences C and D, which was carried out by contractors hired by the Centre, all the work was done by volunteers:
and many other works !
All this work was carried out safely, with the joy that comes from serving the Dhamma.
A LOOK BACK AT THE YOUTH COURSES
On June 7 and 8, courses for children and teenagers took place. More than 50 children aged 8 to 12 and 23 teen aged 13 to 17 spent a day with five 30-minute meditation sessions throughout the day. They enjoyed the calm of the Centre, the good food, their friends and, of course, learning Anapana, which will be a valuable tool throughout their lives.
More than 25 adults came over the two days to supervise the youth and prepare delicious lunches and unlimited snacks (or almost)!
Since the beginning of the year, the Centre has offered seven 10-day courses and two 3-day courses. The teachers, with the support of the 5 long-term servers, one person serving via the Sit-Serve program and all the others who have come to cook and do housekeeping, have succeeded in making the Centre a safe and welcoming place, despite the many snowstorms that have enchanted us all winter! The long-term service team is gearing up for the Seasonal Service Period (SSP), which runs from May 26 to June 6. Housekeeping, horticulture, painting, renovation and construction work are on the agenda, not to mention the preparation of three meals a day. This period will be rounded off in fine style with a children's course on June 7 and a teenagers' course on June 8. |
The statistics for 2024 are essentially the same as in 2023. To note, there was the holding of a 30-day course and the increase in the number of 3-day courses, which was doubled.
Also, more young people have been introduced to the Anapana technique (192 compared to 114 in 2023), while the number of courses offered remained the same.
Let us also remember that a 10-day course was held outside the center, in the Bas-St-Laurent region. A first which was greatly appreciated.
